Volunteer Today

We are living in times of increasing need, insecurity & limited resources.  There are a growing number of
older adults in our community who need some type of assistance each day for an indefinite period of time.  Often, this means piecing together assistance from all parts of the support system; formal and informal, and
still having some needs unfulfilled.  It is a cooperative effort and Elder Network is one part of this tapestry.

Your talents can help many people within our
community. Volunteering can be very rewarding!
Helping others has endless possibilities.  Meeting
new people and helping them cope with life can be a
life changing experience. Call, e-mail or fax Elder
Network today and help yourself, help others.

Opportunities

Respite / Caregiver Support Volunteer:
Give a caregiver a break they deserve!  Elder
Network is looking for Respite Care Volunteers to
provide companionship to an elderly person, while
temporarily relieving the stresses felt by the
caregivers.   This allows the caregiver time to attend
a support group, grocery shop, relax, run needed errands, or just take a break from the duties of care giving, with the ease of mind that their loved one is
safe and taken care of. Volunteering is done in the caregiver’s home.  Assignments are in your local
area or neighborhood. Volunteer training is required.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours a week
Location:  Olmsted and Winona County

Peer Support Volunteer:   If you have the gift of listening and like to work with older adults, Elder
Network has an opportunity for you. Peer Support Volunteers are trained older adults who make
weekly home visits to support older adults throughthe changes, adjustments and stresses that accompany
later life.  Volunteering is done in the older adult’s home.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours a week
Location:  Olmsted, Wabasha and Winona County

Transportation Volunteer Drivers:   Elder Network’s
is looking for individuals who are willing to provide transportation for seniors to their vital medical appointments. Many area seniors do not have friends
or family who can drive, and can not afford private transportation. You can make a huge difference in someone's life by simply giving them a ride! Volunteers set their own schedules, choose the area in which they would like to volunteer, set limits on trip length, and choose how often they volunteer.

Time Commitment: Even giving a ride once or twice a month can make a huge difference.
Location:  Olmsted County

Friendly Visitor Volunteer:   Families or individuals generally spend an hour once per week simply visiting with a senior.  Many seniors have limited social contacts are often eager for someone to talk to or to listen to.  These chats can be the highlight of a senior's week! Your effort to take time for them as an individual means the world. Because of the flexibility of this program, it is
a great opportunity for working people and for families
to help others.
